Impact of Changing from a Village to a City

Impact of Changing from a Village to a City Workshop
October 4, 2019

Over the years, a number of Michigan villages have incorporated as cities.  Are there advantages to be gained by a village incorporating as a city?  This training session will look at the factors to consider in deciding whether or not to seek city status. The incorporation process and the proceedings with the Office of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and the State Boundary Commission will be reviewed and the ins and outs of the incorporation process will be discussed by village officials who have been through the process.

Upon completion of the program, attendees will be able to:
1. Discuss the legal process of incorporation, so that you can share the information with your village’s attorney.
2. Compare and contrast the statutory authorities of municipal government.
3. Identify best practices and be aware of the challenges to be faced.
