FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 24, 2021

Local Government Leaders Call on State Lawmakers to Oppose Bills that Would Allow Short-Term Rentals to Go Unchecked

WHAT: Local municipal leaders, housing advocates, and public safety officials will hold a news conference Monday morning to urge lawmakers to vote down legislation that would allow short-term rentals to operate without regulation in Michigan.

These opponents of SB 446 and HB 4722 argue the bills create a Big Government, one-size-fits-all policy for short-term rentals that would eliminate local leaders’ ability to create policy solutions that fit the unique needs of their communities.

WHO:
Jennifer Rigterink, Michigan Municipal League
Michael Cain, city manager, Boyne City
Yarrow Brown, Housing North Executive Director, Traverse City
Chris Mantels, Saugatuck Township Fire District deputy chief and fire inspector
Others TBD

WHERE: Virtual news conference to be held over the Zoom link below. https://martinwaymire.zoom.us/j/83980267791?pwd=MDRFak5wTGZWVUV5REFONlc1cWpoZz09

WHEN: Monday, May 24th at 10 a.m.
