And the Award Goes to…
League Wins Pinnacle PACE Award for Public Affairs Campaign –The League and its partners in the Michigan Fiscal Responsibility Project (MFRP) won the prestigious 2008 Pinnacle PACE Award, presented by the Public Relations Society of America, Central Michigan Chapter (CMPRSA).
Taking first place in the public affairs category, the MFRP campaign won for its effectiveness as a program specifically designed to influence public policy and/or affect legislation, regulations, political activities or candidacies—at local, state or federal government levels—so that the entity funding the program benefits.
The Winning Campaign…
From 1995 to 2006, Michigan tax cut itself into a fiscal crisis. By 2006, those cuts were directly responsible for major reductions in state programs resulting in police and firefighter layoffs, higher college tuition and increased private health insurance premiums. MFRP provided perspective about the impact of cuts on Michigan communities and families and countered the far-right organizations that dominated the budget discussion. By providing facts and context and personalizing the impact of budget cuts on families, MFRP helped create a healthy political debate that resulted in the state adjusting its priorities, approving additional revenues and restoring vital services.
This year's reciprocal chapter is located in Louisville, Kentucky. Robert Reeves, APR, was kind enough to offer his services, and those of other professionals within the chapter, to judge this year's CMPRSA entries.
