While I’m certainly no Jimmy Stewart (he was a bit taller than I am), we do have something in common: Going to Washington. In the film, “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” Stewart played a man who stood up for his beliefs in the face of opposition from many sides. And this month, I’ll be heading to Washington D.C. with officials from the Michigan Municipal League to fight for Michigan communities. We’ll be attending the NLC Congressional Cities Conference, March 13-17 in D.C. This annual event brings together local officials from across Michigan and the nation. We’ll attend workshops on federal issues and meet with congressional members. As the League, our focus this year will be on transportation as we try to influence the current debate on a new road funding formula and related policies. To let you know how the conference is going, I’ll post regular items here throughout the week.
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have for our congressional reps and if I get the chance I’ll try to get the answers for you. You can email me your questions to jenks@mml.org and I'll post the responses here.
