Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We plan to build a new police station and would like to talk
to officials from other communities who have been through the process.
Can you give us contacts?
Hudson submitted an entry in the Leagues achievement
award program in 1995. We also have an article on planning the police
station from a 1993 issue of the Illinois state league magazine. If any
of you have recently designed and constructed a police station, please
call and let me know so your name can be added to our resource list. Also,
if you have any documentation (RFPs, contracts etc.) to share, that would
be greatly appreciated.
As the new police chief in our community, I just discovered our school crossing guards are not being trained. Where can we get training for them?
MCL 257.613c makes school crossing guards the responsibility of the local law enforcement agency. It also requires that guards have 4 hours of training before beginning their duties and 2 hours of additional training before each school year begins.
The State of Michigan provides a manual and presentation to assist with this training. You can access the Adult Crossing Guard Manual and the PowerPoint presentation at http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,4615,7-140-6530_6569_38338-219434--,00.html. Click on this and you will see 2 links - the first is the Manual and the second is the presentation.
AAA of Michigan also provides training guidelines and assistance for local governments. They have the Manual, the training DVD "Between the Lines", a DVD with the PowerPoint presentation and the Michigan Adult Crossing Guard Handbook for the guard. They are available by calling 1-800-646-4222 or sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
