Forms of Government

Question:
We are interested on statistics on forms of government in Michigan.

Answer:
From the League database – there are 274 home rule cities, 211 general law villages and 48 home rule villages. Based on the MML directory survey, of the 533 cities and villages in Michigan, 240 have the council/manager form of government and 121 the mayor/council, also known as strong mayor, form of government. The remaining 204 are general law villages with no manager, operating under PA 3 of 1895.

There are also 1242 townships.
