Green Building Incentives PoliciesWhile Michigan municipalities cannot require building efficiencies beyond the uniform state standards, a number of local governments have taken creative approaches to promoting green building through incentives. Auburn Hills - (HRC) Pop. 19,837 - Encourages developers to apply for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and offers additional tax abatements for certified properties. East Lansing - (HRC) Pop, 46,525 - Requires all municipal buildings and all private buildings receiving public subsidies to be LEED-certified. Sterling Heights - (HRC) Pop. 124,471 - Extends its industrial tax abatements for firms with LEED-certified facilities.
