Michigan Citizen Planner is offering a series of workshops across the state on Complete Streets policies and practices over the next several weeks. The trainings are developed specifically for local elected and appointed officials, planning and zoning officials, and health officials, as well as local leaders and interested citizens.
The League was a primary advocate for the legislation, working to ensure that it would work for our members and has been partnering since then with other statewide organizations on providing training for local officials. The Citizen Planner trainings will review key components of this new law, provide an overview of Complete Streets policies and practices including ordinance development, and discuss tools and resources for implementation and funding opportunities.
Since the passage of "Complete Streets" legislation last year communities across the state have responded positively. Michigan now has more communities with Complete Streets policies than any other state in the country! Complete Streets complement the League's Prosperity Agenda and the Physical Design/Walkability core asset identified by the League's Center for 21st Century Communities.
