The Michigan Municipal League's Andy Schor is quoted in a recent Detroit Crain's Business article about a proposed New Economy state commission. Unfortunately, you can't read this Crain's article unless you are a paid subscriber to their site, but let me summarize what Andy had to say.
The article by Amy Lane was about how the Michigan Legislature is considering forming a new state commission that would set a new-economy direction for the state. This is something heavily support by the League and the fact that Andy was quoted in the article shows how the League is viewed as a leader in this effort.
Under the bill, sponsored by Ed Clemente, D-Lincoln Park, the state would establish a 23-member commission, appointed by the next governor, that would develop a strategy to move the state twoard an economy based in areas such as innovation, knowledge and entrepreneurism.
Here's the part of the article related to Andy:
"The group could do research, recommend legislative and departmental changes and take other steps, serving as 'one centralized think tank to put it all together,' said Schor, who worked with Clemente on the legislation. 'We believe there needs to be some centralized thinking about how we do reinvent the state for the future.' "
The bill passed Clemente's New Economy and Quality of Life Committee, and could soon go before the full House.
