Last night I had the opportunity to be present when the cities of East Lansing and Lansing unveiled a collaborative cultural economic development plan for the Greater Lansing area.  Among the findings of a study commissioned to build the plan was that growth in the creative economy in the metro Lansing area continues to outpace all other industries and that twice as many creative industry workers are more likely to start their own business.  As we are learning, gardening economic growth in local communities through policies that encourage entreprenuers helps to create a more sustainable economy.  The role creative industires might play is certainly something to think about as local officials look toward crafting economic development strategies that better reflect the 21st century. lansing area ced plan.pdf (4.90 mb)
