Media Room Michigan Municipal LeaguePress Release Matt Bach FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 2, 2020 Michigan Municipal League Insurance Boards Announce 2020 Member DividendsANN ARBOR, Michigan – Members of the Michigan Municipal League’s insurance programs—almost a thousand cities, villages, counties, townships, and other public entities—will share dividends totaling over $15.5 million in 2020. The Workers’ Compensation Fund Board of Trustees has voted to return $14 million in dividends to its member-owners. The Fund has issued $42.6 million in dividends over the previous five years, representing about 27 percent of members’ premiums over the same period. The Liability & Property Pool Board of Directors has authorized dividends as well, returning $1.575 million in dividends to member-owners who renew coverage in 2020. Over the previous five years, the Pool has issued $11.4 million in dividends, corresponding to about 11 percent of members’ premiums during the same period. “When members work hard to improve safety and reduce risks and claims through prevention, training, and exemplary leadership, we are able to return the resulting savings back to their communities, including in the form of dividends,” said Michael Forster, the League’s Director of Risk Management Services. “We thank our members for their continued efforts, which are key to the ongoing success of the League and its insurance programs.” The MML Liability & Property Pool and Workers’ Compensation Fund are nonprofit self-insurance pools owned and governed by their members. The programs maintain rock-solid financial positions and offer stable, cost-effective, and broad coverage options. Expert risk management services are provided by municipal risk specialists with decades of experience. For over 100 years, the Michigan Municipal League has sought to represent, inspire, and educate its members through state and federal legislative and legal advocacy, policy initiatives, redevelopment and civic innovations assistance, grants, insurance and risk management, annual wage surveys, and a host of other services.
