Melanie Piana Steps Down as League President to Run for Ferndale Mayor

ANN ARBOR, Michigan – Ferndale City Councilmember Melanie Piana has stepped down as President of the Michigan Municipal League Board of Trustees to run for Mayor in the City of Ferndale.

Piana has served as League President since September. Current League Vice President Brenda Moore, Saginaw Mayor Pro Tem, will complete the remaining 2 1/2 months of Piana’s term as President. To run for mayor, Piana also resigned her seat on the Ferndale City Council Monday.

“Melanie has been an outstanding President leading us on a number of initiatives, including establishing standards of excellence for the board and raising the League’s awareness in the area of equity and inclusion,” said Dan Gilmartin, League CEO and Executive Director. “We wish her well in her continued efforts to serve the community.”

Piana thanked her fellow board members and League members for allowing her to serve as the organization’s president.

“It’s been an honor to serve as president for the board and I look forward to continuing to work with the League as mayor in the future,” Piana said.
