Michigan Municipal League Honors Graduates of 2019 Elected Officials Academy

LANSING, Michigan — The Michigan Municipal League honored 25 graduates of its 2019 Elected Officials Academy during the League’s annual Capital Conference in Lansing March 20, 2019.

Now in its 22nd year, the Elected Officials Academy is an ongoing four-level program that educates and recognizes elected officials across the state for their dedication to becoming as professional and knowledgeable as possible in the role of public servant. The Elected Officials Academy, a voluntary education and recognition program, was created in 1997 by a board of elected officials working with League staff.

Recipients of the 2019 Level One Education Award who have completed 25 academy credits are the following elected officials: Colleen Brown, Mayor, Montrose; Bill Colovos, Councilmember, Southgate; Janet Dillon, Councilmember, Saline; Sharlan Douglas, Mayor Pro Tem, Royal Oak; Dennis Hennen, Councilmember, Berkley; Lee Kilbourn, Mayor, Auburn; Joe LaRussa, Councilmember, Farmington; Raylon Leaks-May, Councilmember, Ferndale; Larry Moss, Councilmember, Greenville; Abu Musa, Councilmember, Hamtramck; Greg Pawlica, Councilmember, Ferndale; Michael Radtke, Councilmember, Sterling Heights; Theresa Rich, Councilmember, Farmington Hills; and Kathy Winczewski, Councilor, Ludington.

The recipients of the 2019 Level Two Leadership Award by completing 55 academy credits are Sam Bolt, Mayor Pro Tem, Wyoming; John Hoppough, Mayor, Greenville; Robert Monetza, Councilmember, Grand Haven; and Kimberley Sims, Mayor, Muskegon Heights.

The recipients of the 2019 Level Three Governance Award by completing 100 academy credits are Sandra Howland, Commissioner, Walker; Monica Galloway, Councilmember, Flint; and Joe Greene, Mayor, Caro.

The Level Four Ambassador Award, which demonstrates the recipient’s practical application of all the education and skills he or she has acquired, was awarded to Brenda F. Moore, Mayor Pro Tem, Saginaw.
