Michigan Municipal Executives Honor Retired Midland Assistant City Manager Jack Duso

Official Receives Prestigious Patriarche Award for Service

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Retired Midland Assistant City Manager Jack Duso received the 2018 John M. Patriarche Distinguished Service Award for his service to Michigan communities spanning multiple decades.

The Patriarche Award is the highest honor given by the Michigan Municipal Executives (MME). The Award was created in 1992 and recognizes members who have fostered representative democracy by enhancing the effectiveness of local-elected officials through innovative programs and excellence in character and professionalism.

The award was given to Duso Thursday, Sept. 20, during a MME Colloquium education session at the 2018 Michigan Municipal League Convention in Grand Rapids.

Duso retired in November 2011 after a 31-year career with the city of Midland. He began his career as an administrative intern while pursuing his master’s degree. In 1980 he was hired as the administrative assistant to the city manager, and in 1991 was promoted to assistant city manager. Jack is a former MME (MLGMA) Board member and served on several of its committees.

As a member of the Website Committee, he was instrumental in the creation of the first association website and the implementation of the management forum listserv. He managed the listserv from its beginning in October 2000 until his retirement. As a member of the Advocacy Committee he participated in the planning and production of the Council Manager Plan video that can be viewed on the MME website.

He received his bachelor’s from Eastern Michigan University and his master’s degree from Central Michigan University.

In his retirement he continues to apply his public administration skills through his participation in the governance of a 1,146 resident Homeowners' Association in Fort Myers, Florida, where he and his wife, Vicki, reside.
