FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 17, 2018

SaveMICity Initiative to Unveil New Marketing Initiative in Grand Rapids this Week

WHAT:           The ongoing SaveMICity initiative will rollout new materials designed to educate Michigan citizens about the funding challenges facing Michigan communities.

WHERE:        During the 2018 Michigan Municipal League Convention in downtown Grand Rapids

WHEN:          Thursday, September 20, 2018

WHY:             The enhanced launch of this municipal finance reform effort specifically aims to educate Michigan citizens about the financial challenges facing the state’s communities, including its cities, counties, townships and villages.

The SaveMICity campaign will work to highlight the state of Michigan’s disinvestment in its communities—to the tune of $8.6 billion over the last decade—and why rededicating existing resources to local government is the best way to further encourage growth in Michigan’s economy.

The League will offer interview opportunities at the Convention for interested outlets as required. For additional information, contact the League’s Matt Bach, director of communications, at mbach@mml.org or 810-874-1073.

About the League: Michigan Municipal League is dedicated to making Michigan’s communities better by thoughtfully innovating programs, energetically connecting ideas and people, actively serving members with resources and services, and passionately inspiring positive change for Michigan’s greatest centers of potential: its communities. The League advocates on behalf of its member communities in Lansing, Washington, D.C., and the courts; provides educational opportunities for elected and appointed municipal officials; and assists municipal leaders in administering services to their communities through League programs and services.
