Job Searching Just Got Smarter with New Michigan Career Hub

Michigan Municipal League project with WorkFountain aims to help Michigan job seekers and employers find their best fit, faster

(LANSING, Mich.) -- Searching for your ideal job and your next all-star employee just became easier thanks to a new website launched today.

The Michigan Municipal League unveiled the Michigan Career Hub website,, today in partnership with WorkFountain, and with support from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. The site aims to help match Michigan job seekers and employers with reduced recruiter and candidate bias, more sophisticated talent-matching algorithms, and less wasted time searching through generic job postings and resumes.

“Designed to increase diversity and reduce bias in the hiring process, the Michigan Career Hub is a powerful technology that helps Michigan businesses, large and small, connect with outstanding talent,” said Gloria Lara, Michigan Career Hub executive director.

Michigan Career Hub uses the WorkFountain platform, which was developed through a partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor, the New Economy Initiative, and the W. K. Kellogg Foundation to create a sophisticated job-matching site that goes beyond using simple keywords and general job descriptions. The WorkFountain platform also provides instant, unbiased feedback on the job seeker’s application so candidates can continue to improve their chances of finding a job.

“We saw this as an opportunity to unite all workforce system stakeholders across a regional technological platform,” said Lavea Brachman, vice president of programs at the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. “By connecting employers, job seekers, trade groups, education and training providers, and economic development agencies, the Michigan Career Hub website offers job seekers multiple pathways to connect to jobs, education and training opportunities.”

Michigan Career Hub Partner Mission:
The Michigan Career Hub partners are committed to making Michigan a great place to live and do business. Individually and collectively, the partner organizations support efforts by Michigan communities, education institutions, companies, and workforce agencies to:

  • Create strong, vibrant communities that help attract and retain businesses and a talented workforce;

  • Ensure Michigan’s current and future workforce is trained in the comprehensive skills needed to address 21st century issues; and

  • Foster a culture of innovation, entrepreneurism, diversity, and high-quality work in Michigan industries.

The Michigan Career Hub helps address these goals by providing an efficient, effective tool for businesses of all sizes to recruit the talent they need to grow their businesses for both jobs and internships.

League members that utilize the League’s classified ads page will now also have the option of posting their positions to the League portal on Michigan Career Hub. This service will be provided at no extra cost to League members. The League recognizes that Michigan’s communities need to have attractive places, a talented workforce, and robust businesses to succeed. The League and its members are investing in placemaking initiatives to attract talent and business. The Michigan Career Hub will further the League’s mission of strengthening communities and retaining and attracting talent by making it easier for employers, League members, and job seekers to find the best fit for them.

“We’re excited to offer our members such an efficient, high-tech method for connecting with the best talent for their communities,” said Dan Gilmartin, CEO and executive director of the Michigan Municipal League. “Michigan Career Hub will enhance their ability to add top-notch people to their team.”
