MACKINAC ISLAND, Michigan — Auburn Mayor Lee Kilbourn was recently elected to serve a one-year term as president of the Michigan Association of Mayors (MAM). Kilbourn was selected Thursday, Sept. 15, at the organization’s annual meeting, which took place during the Michigan Municipal League Convention on Mackinac Island.

In addition, Baraga Village President Wendell Dompier was selected as vice president of the association.

Kilbourn, was previously MAM vice president, succeeds MAM President Frank Campbell, Hastings Mayor. Campbell said he is retiring as mayor.

He is currently a member of the Auburn-Williams Lions Club, the Auburn Downtown Development Authority, and the Auburn-Williams Intergovernmental Committee.

He graduated from Oral Roberts University with a bachelor's degree in business. He and his wife, Kathy, are second generation owners of their family's 59-year-old furniture business and proud grandparents of three grandchildren.

“The Michigan Association of Mayors is an outstanding organization and I am pleased to lead the membership for the next year,” Kilbourn said. “Our goals include expanding our membership base and helping inform the public, business community and our legislatures about the financial struggles of Michigan’s communities.”

Dompier has served as the village president of Baraga, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, since 1998. He has a strong sense of community and has been a member of the Lions Club, Lumberjack Days committee (20-plus years), Baraga Fire Department (15 years retires), and an EMT B with Bay Ambulance. He retired from the Ojibwa Casino Resort after 26 years. He is currently service on the Bay Ambulance Board of Directors and the Baraga DDA. He has served on the MAM board since November of 2015. He also is a member of the Michigan Municipal League Board of Trustees.

“It is an honor to serve as vice president of the Michigan Association of Mayors,” Dompier said. “I’m looking forward to working with MAM President Lee Kilbourn in the upcoming year to help serve our fellow mayors and village presidents.”
