Jennifer Rigterink Joins Michigan Municipal League's Advocacy Staff

LANSING, Mich. ― Jennifer Rigterink is joining the Michigan Municipal League’s advocacy staff after previously working at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Rigterink is Legislative Associate of State Affairs for the League and advocates on behalf of communities with a concentration on municipal services, economic development and land use issues.

Prior to joining the League, Jennifer directed technical assistance for Community Development at MEDC, including the Redevelopment Ready Communities® and Michigan Main Street programs. She also managed the Genesee Institute, now the Center for Community Progress, where she focused on building awareness of Michigan’s land bank authority model and vacant property initiatives.

“Jennifer has an extensive background in helping Michigan’s communities through the concept of placemaking,” said League CEO and Executive Director Dan Gilmartin. “We’re excited to have her as part of our team and use her placemaking background in our advocacy efforts.”

Chris Hackbarth, director of state affairs for the League, added: “Jennifer is an excellent addition to our Lansing team. Our work in Lansing is extremely important to creating vibrant communities and Jennifer is the ideal person to help our communities succeed in the areas of economic development, community services and land use issues.”

In addition, Rigterink, a certified economic development finance professional, represents the League on the Michigan Main Street Advisory Committee. Jennifer has a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Michigan State University.

She lives in DeWitt with her husband Chris and two children. Along with her husband, she is co-owner of a small business called The Mattress Source in East Lansing, Michigan.

Michigan Municipal League is dedicated to making Michigan’s communities better by thoughtfully innovating programs, energetically connecting ideas and people, actively serving members with resources and services, and passionately inspiring positive change for Michigan’s greatest centers of potential: its communities. The League advocates on behalf of its member communities in Lansing, Washington, D.C., and the courts; provides educational opportunities for elected and appointed municipal officials; and assists municipal leaders in administering services to their communities through League programs and services.
