Michigan Municipal League Honors Graduates of 2016 Elected Officials Academy

LANSING, Michigan —The Michigan Municipal League honored 20 graduates of its 2016 Elected Officials Academy during the League’s Annual Capital Conference in Lansing March 23, 2016.

Now in its 19th year, the Elected Officials Academy is an ongoing four-level program that educates and recognizes elected officials across the state for their dedication to becoming as professional and knowledgeable as possible in the role of public servant. The Elected Officials Academy, a voluntary education and recognition program, was created in 1997 by a board of elected officials working with League staff. Since then, 219 individuals have graduated from Level One; 130 have graduated from Level Two; and 88 have graduated from Level Three. In 2012, the League adopted Level Four of the Elected Officials Academy and has since awarded it to 6 individuals. Currently, 333 elected officials are actively participating in the program.

Recipients of the 2016 Level One Education Award who have completed 25 academy credits are the following elected officials: Mickey Carothers, Parma; Lisa Hicks-Clayton, Dearborn Heights; Sandra Howland, Walker; Andrea Karpinski, Hamtramck; Brenda Moore, Saginaw; Willard Redman, Hastings; Cardi DeMonaco, Eastpointe; Alan Kideckel, Berkley; Andy LeCureaux, Hazel Park; Yvonne Ridge, Charlotte; Jacqueline Poplar, Flint; Monica Galloway, Flint; Scott Kincaid, Flint; Eric Mays, Flint; Wantwaz Davis, Flint; and Victoria VanBuren, Flint.
