State Representative Andy Schor Named Legislator of the Year

Representative Honored by Michigan Municipal League

LANSING, Michigan —The Michigan Municipal League has honored State Representative Andy Schor (D-Lansing) as the League’s 2016 Legislator of the Year. The award was formally presented to Rep. Schor during the League’s annual Capital Conference Awards Gala March 22 in Lansing.

Rep. Schor represents the state’s 68th House District, which covers part of the city of Lansing and Lansing Township in Ingham County.

While Rep. Schor is well known within the Michigan Municipal League for his time with this organization as a legislative associate, he has been able to make a name for himself in the House of Representatives as someone capable of working with anyone regardless of the issue or party, said League CEO and Executive Director Dan Gilmartin.

“Rep. Schor has successfully transformed his experience with the League and his time as an Ingham County Commissioner to be a leader within his own caucus and within the institution, overall,” Gilmartin said. “Despite serving in the minority caucus in the House, Representative Schor has seen success negotiating key pieces of legislation, many of which he has partnered with the League to sponsor.”

In addition, Rep. Schor has been a key component in numerous local government and tax policy issues and has been successful in advocating for his community and the interests of municipalities around the state. His leadership on the data center tax incentive package protected municipalities from being negatively impacted, and his partnership with the League through the Legislative Talent and Place Caucus has helped promote new legislative ideas to attract and retain talent within our communities.

The League also gave the 2016 Legislator of the Year Award to State Rep. Dave Maturen (R-Vicksburg).

About the Legislator of the Year Award: The honor is presented each year to lawmakers for their instrumental actions in the Michigan State Legislature on behalf of local communities. These individuals are recognized for their efforts in the passage of legislation that will benefit local governments or who have fought consistently to support local government.
