Rep. Dave Maturen Named Legislator of the Year

State Representative Honored by Michigan Municipal League

LANSING, Michigan —The Michigan Municipal League has honored State Representative Dave Maturen (R-Vicksburg) as the League’s 2016 Legislator of the Year. The award was formally presented to Rep. Maturen during the League’s annual Capital Conference Awards Gala March 22 in Lansing.

Rep. Maturen represents the state’s 63rd House District that encompasses parts of Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties in southwest Michigan.

In his first term in the Michigan House of Representatives, Rep. Maturen has distinguished himself as a thoughtful policy maker and earned the respect of his colleagues on both sides of the aisle, said League CEO and Executive Director Dan Gilmartin.

“Rep. Maturen’s experience in local government as a county commissioner and township trustee and his background as an appraiser and assessor have made him a valuable resource for his fellow legislators on the Tax Policy and Local Government committees,” Gilmartin said. “Rep. Maturen has proven time and again that he values good policy over partisanship and we look forward to working in partnership with him through the remainder of this term and in the coming years.”

In particular, Maturen’s experience and the approach he brings to the legislative process earned him the opportunity to chair a workgroup on the Dark Store/Big Box property tax appeal issue that’s of high importance to Michigan communities. He has been an outspoken, supportive voice on numerous other issues that have been critical to the Municipal League and our member communities.

Also receiving the 2016 Legislator of the Year Award from the League was State Rep. Andy Schor (D-Lansing).

About the Legislator of the Year Award: The honor is presented each year to lawmakers for their instrumental actions in the Michigan State Legislature on behalf of local communities. These individuals are recognized for their efforts in the passage of legislation that will benefit local governments or who have fought consistently to support local government.
