Michigan Local Government Management Association Honors Kathie Grinzinger

Former Mt. Pleasant Manager Receives Patriarche Award

NOVI, Michigan – Former Mt. Pleasant City Manager Kathie Grinzinger received the 2014 Patriarche Colloquium Award for her continued service to Michigan communities spanning more than 30 years.

The highest honor given by the Michigan Local Government Management Association (MLGMA), the John M. Patriarche Distinguished Service Award was created in 1992 and recognizes past members who have fostered representative democracy by enhancing the effectiveness of locally-elected officials through innovative programs and excellence in character and professionalism. The award was announced in October and Grinzinger was recognized for receiving the honor Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015 at the MLGMA Winter Institute in Novi.

“Throughout her career, Kathie has been a leader not only in her community but throughout the state,” said Peter Auger, MLGMA immediate past president and Novi city manager. “She has served with distinction on numerous statewide organizations to assist Michigan municipalities on an array of issues.”

Grinzinger spent her entire public service career of over 30 years with the City of Mt. Pleasant, rising from community development coordinator to assistant city manager to city manager. As city manager, she served the community for over seven years as its top administrative officer.

During her career, and in addition to her many professional responsibilities, Grinzinger found time to serve the Michigan Local Government Management Association, including service on the association’s board of directors and then as president-elect, president and past president. In 2012, she was recognized for her service to local government with an International City/County Management Association 30 year service award. Currently, Grinzinger serves as a lead executive recruiter for the Michigan Municipal League.

Grinzinger said she was honored to get the organization’s top award.

“You serve communities because you love it and believe what cities and villages are all about,” Grinzinger said. “To be recognized by your peers for doing what you enjoy so much is truly humbling, but also greatly appreciated.”

The Michigan Local Government Management Association is the professional association for local government managers and their assistants from cities, villages, townships and counties throughout Michigan. The association was founded in 1927. For details go to
