Training for Newly Elected Officials Is Happening Throughout State

ANN ARBOR, Michigan – The elections are over and now the real work begins.

To hit the ground running, the Michigan Municipal League is having a series of “You Won! Now What?” trainings throughout the state over the next several weeks.

The trainings are:

  • Nov. 18 in Ferrysburg (6-9 p.m. with check-in starting at 5:30 p.m.);

  • Dec. 1 in Grayling (6-9 p.m. with check-in starting at 5:30 p.m.);

  • Dec. 9 in Lansing (6-9 p.m. with check-in starting at 5:30 p.m.);

  • Dec. 10 in Southfield (1-4 p.m. with check-in starting at 12:30 p.m.);

  • Dec. 16 in Birch Run (6-9 p.m. with check-in starting at 5:30 p.m.);

  • Jan. 20 in Ann Arbor (6-9 p.m. with check-in starting at 5:30 p.m.).

A session also took place in Wayne. Go here for details, including addresses and a complete agenda for the trainings.

Each session will cover core topics that will help educate first-time elected, as well as experienced officials, on the basic functions they will need to know in their roles as public leaders.

Topics include an overview of basic local government, the Freedom of Information Act, council roles and responsibilities, business meeting basics, government finance, an overview of the Open Meetings Act, and a panel discussion on “what I’ve learned as an elected official” from experienced area elected leaders.

The cost is $90 for League members and $145 for League nonmember government officials.
