Ann Arbor, Mich. (Oct. 1, 2010) -When it comes to social media, communities have two choices: Learn how to use this powerful communications tool - or get "abused" by it.

This session will explore what an employer should do to establish policy governing the use of social networking sites as it pertains to the reputation and integrity of the organization, and to safeguard protected or confidential information.

With the explosion of popularity in social networking, employers have heightened interests in controlling the job-related speech of employees acting in their professional capacity.

In fact, they can require all employee communication on official business to be accurate, demonstrate sound judgment and promote the employer’s mission—no matter where it is.

Some of what you'll learn:

  • Establishing policies for social networking that protect your organization’s reputation and integrity while safeguarding confidential information.

  • How employee/employer use of social networking sites can impact the employer’s liability.

  • Legal implications of using social networking as part of employment investigations into candidates for hire.

  • Establishing policy, training and audit procedures to protect against allegations of civil rights violations.

Cost is $10 for League Risk Pool Members, $70 for League member communities and $125 for nonmember communities. Education credits: .3 CEU, 3 EOA.
