Grand Blanc Mayor Earns Michigan Municipal League’s Highest Honor
Grand Blanc Mayor Michael Matheny Receives 2010 Honorary Life Membership Award
DEARBORN, Mich. (Sept. 27, 2010) – The Michigan Municipal League (MML) announced today Grand Blanc Mayor Michael Matheny as the recipient of the 2010 Honorary Life Membership Award, bestowed on Matheny during its Annual Convention in Dearborn.
Michael Matheny has served as the mayor of Grand Blanc since 1997; he previously served on the city council for eight years. As a councilmember, Matheny served as the chairman of the Public Safety and Personnel Committees and the combined City/Township Fire Commission, where he was instrumental in the initial idea and development of a Michigan Urban Search and Rescue (MUSAR) team. He was a member of the League Board of Trustees 2003-2005 and served as League president 2005-2006.
Matheny has also served as president of the Michigan Association of Mayors, was president of the Genesee County Small Cities and Villages Organization, and served at the national level with the National League of Cities Urban Development Committee. He is a member of the Grand Blanc Rotary Club, American Legion Post 413, and numerous other civic and professional organizations.
Honorary Life Membership, first awarded in 1932, is the League's highest honor, reserved for the most active and inspiring leaders dedicated to the League and its mission.
