Multiculturalism: An Asset for Michigan's Future

Steve Tobocman to Speak at League's 112th Convention, Sept. 21-24

Dearborn, Michigan (July 7, 2010) – Former House of Representatives Floor Leader Steve Tobocman will speak on multiculturalism as a dynamic force for change at the League's 112th Annual Convention taking place September 21-24 in Dearborn, Michigan. Go here to register.

In the early 20th century, Tobocman's grandfather emigrated from Poland to southwest Detroit to pursue the American Dream: the freedom to earn a decent living, practice his faith and express his political views.

It's a common history shared by many Americans, one that helped define the nation and fueled its success. Tobocman is a visionary who sees in our past one of the keys to America's future.

Among his many endeavors, Tobocman is spearheading the Global Detroit study for the New Economy Initiative and Detroit Regional Chamber, looking at how southeastern Michigan can utilize foreign-born talent and global connections to expand the economy. It's a dramatic example of the League's 21c3 program in action.

Also in Steve Tobocman's track record:

  • Three consecutive two-year terms in the Michigan House of Representatives
  • Former Majority Floor Leader
  • Author of 24 public acts and contributor to Michigan Land Bank legislation
  • Founder of Community Legal Resources, providing free legal services to nonprofits serving low-income communities
  • Managing partner of New Solutions Group, LLC
  • Co-Director of the Michigan Foreclosure Task Force
  • Recipient of American Bar Association’s Business Law Public Service Award in 2002
Hear what this innovative entrepreneur has to say about building Michigan's future. We guarantee you'll walk away enlightened, inspired and filled with new ideas for your own 21st Century Community.
