Media Room Press ReleaseFor Immediate Release Contact: Andrea Messinger Michigan Municipal League Announces 2010 Board of TrusteesHuntington Woods Commissioner Named President, Alpena Mayor Vice President ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Michigan Municipal League (MML) announced today the approval of officers for its 2010 Board of Trustees during its Annual Convention in Kalamazoo.
Six new trustees complete the 19-member board: Gary McDowell, Adrian mayor; John Davidson, Bay City commissioner; Pat Capek, Cedar Springs councilmember; David Lossing, Linden mayor; Larry Nielsen, Paw Paw village manager and; Susan Rowe, Wayne councilmember. Each will serve a three-year term effective September 26, 2009. “This will be a very exciting year and opportunity for communities and the Legislature to move Michigan forward," said Jenks. "As president of the League, I will work to have everybody understand the importance of communities in growing Michigan's economy, we do not stand alone, we are in competition with other states to develop our future. A better Michigan requires better communities." Shafto said, "I'm thrilled to represent Alpena on the League's board and for this opportunity to promote my community and communities statewide!" Responsible for developing and guiding the organization’s public policy initiatives and legislative agenda, the six newly elected trustees join Executive Director and CEO Dan Gilmartin and the eleven volunteers who remain on the 2010 Board, including Ray Anderson, Norway city manager; Virg Bernero, Lansing mayor; Patricia Bureau, Ishpeming mayor pro tem; Richard Clanton, Kentwood commissioner; Kenneth Cockrel, Jr., Detroit council president; Penny Hill, Kalkaska village manager; Dale Kerbyson, Lapeer city manager; Deanna Koski, Sterling Heights mayor pro tem; Karen Majewski, Hamtramck mayor; Lynn Markland, Fenton city manager and; David Post, Hillman village manager.
