In making the announcement, Stephen K. Postema, MAMA president and city of Ann Arbor attorney, said, "The Award honors attorneys who, representing cities and villages, have attained the highest level of professional accomplishment while serving other municipal attorneys through professional organizations like the MAMA and the International Municipal Lawyers Association." The Award recipients are John E. Beras, city of Southfield attorney and Don M. Schmidt, principal, Miller Canfield Paddock and Stone, Kalamazoo office. Beras has served Southfield for the past 22 years and Schmidt represents the city of Wayland, village of Augusta and Schoolcraft Community Schools. "This year's Award recipients are vibrant examples of what can be accomplished through our legal careers. It is with great pride and encouragement to others that we recognize their accomplishments and contributions to advancing the profession," said Postema. The Individual Awards recipients were honored at the MAMA luncheon, part of the 2009 Michigan Municipal League Annual Convention in Kalamazoo, September 22. Click here for event photos.
