Locals Denounce Revenue Sharing Cuts
On June 24, 2009, the House Appropriations committee restored $85 million of
the revenue sharing cuts passed by the General Government subcommittee!
While the restored funding does not include the proposed increases
in the Governor's budget, it covers all but $5 million of what cities
and villages are getting in the current fiscal year.
And the Winner in Region 7 is. . . The City of Marquette The City of Marquette demonstrated how community vision, citizen participation, and form-based codes can create a winning combination for economic development in Marquette. In 2000, the city made a concerted effort to reinvent itself and has redeveloped brownfield areas into thriving economic development with green space and quality of life improvements for residents.
And the Winner in Region 6 is. . . The City of Cadillac Cadillac’s winning entry is the Clam River Greenway which is 1.6 miles of connecting paths along the river that were previously overgrown and unutilized. It has enhanced outdoor activity for the entire community and was an approximate ten-year citizen-city collaborative process. This video allows you to hear a little from the Region 6 winner!
And the Winner in Region 5 is. . . The Village of Lexington Lexington’s presentation was a cooperative effort between the village and the Lexington Arts Council. The Bach Festival, originally initiated to meet the cultural needs and interests in a rural part of Michigan, has been an important part of life in the Thumb for a number of years. And the Winner in Region 4 is. . . The City of Mt. Pleasant The votes are in! Officials across the region chose the city of Mt. Pleasant as the Region 4 finalist for the Community Excellence Award. Mt. Pleasant won the peer-nomination in a spirited competition amongst its neighboring communities, Alma and Bay City, for its “Borden Building Renovation" project.
