Update: Uniform Traffic Code for Cities,
Townships,
and Villages
The revised Uniform Traffic Code was filed with the Secretary
of State on October 22, 2002 and became effective ctober 30, 2002. Extensive
revision of the Uniform Traffic Code was made to avoid duplication
of provisions in the Michigan Vehicle Code.
The following steps should be completed to maintain continuous traffic
law coverage
-
Adopt the Michigan Vehicle Code by reference as your primary code.
If snowmobile enforcement is done regularly, Part 821 §324.82101
to 324.82160 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection
Act
(Act 451 of 1994) should be adopted as well.
-
In addition, you may also adopt the revised UTC to enforce its provisions
as well. (See sample ordinance below)
If you are currently using the UTC as the primary set of traffic ordinances,
it is essential that you adopt the MVC immediately.
