Since 1899, the Michigan Municipal League (MML) has worked to improve local government by improving the information, expertise and resources available to local government officials. Recognizing that many municipal leaders lack the specialized knowledge necessary for effective decision making, MML has been an ongoing source of technical information and assistance, professional training and relevant research.

Today, the issues facing city and village officials are more complex than ever before – spanning subjects that range from law to economics. Unfortunately, budget constraints often make it difficult or even impossible for municipal leaders to take advantage of MML programs that offer the information and expertise they require for wise, informed governance.
