Program Description
Michigan State University Extension's State and Local Government Program,
along with the Michigan Municipal League, Michigan Association of Counties,
Michigan Township Association, and Michigan Local Government Management
Association, and other local government associations, is initiating the
creation of the Michigan Local Government Benchmarking Consortium in
an effort to use performance measures and best practices to assist local
governments in improving services in fiscally constrained times. The
consortium will provide an opportunity for cities, townships, villages,
and counties to benchmark their performance in key service areas with
the facilitation and resources offered by the State and Local Government
Program, an impartial party, dedicated to assisting municipalities excel
fiscally and economically. To provide more information to local
governments and kick start the consortium, the State and Local Government
Program and the Michigan Municipal League are co-hosting an event to
introduce leaders to the benefits of benchmarking and the structure of
the consortium.
