Josh McManus of Little Things Labs to Speak at Convention

Josh McManus is curator and lead inventor of Little Things Laboratories, an independent innovation laboratory that identifies and acts on pressing problems and emerging opportunities in mid-sized and post-industrial cities. Current projects include the D:hive, a place-based talent retention and attraction storefront in Detroit, Michigan, and Haile’s Kitchen, a foundation innovation model in Cincinnati, Ohio.

We’ve all heard that attracting and keeping talent is the creative lifeblood of any city seeking to grow into the 21st century and beyond. But placemaking can’t work without people—and that means connecting people quickly to the other bright people, places and work they’re passionate about. Josh will share his own real-world examples of bringing new talent together to bring new ideas, new businesses, new uses of existing infrastructure, and new tax bases to any city.

Register for Convention before September 7 to receive the early bird rate!

Grant Money Workshop at Conventiontraining program

Join the League for the “Where’s the Money?” post-Convention workshop on October 5, where Michigan native Dr. Beverly A. Browning will review web funding databases to reveal private sector funders that award grants to units of municipal government. She’ll show you projects that foundations and corporations have supported financially in Michigan and the Great Lakes region. Dr. Browning will also lead the audience in writing private sector funding requests. So come prepared and have an idea of what types of non-infrastructure projects you want to see funded in your community.

This year the League is offering a variety of post-Convention workshops in an effort to help you save on additional travel costs. These workshops are available for an additional fee. Click here for more information or to register!

Online Silent Auction Coming Soon!
Help our communities by donating an item.  foundation
Bidding Begins September 4.

Contribute to the silent auction by bidding or donating an item. This annual event held at the League Convention, this year October 3-5 on Mackinac Island, presents a great opportunity to bring home unique gifts representing communities across Michigan, or you can highlight your community, local businesses, and local talent by donating an item. We will again offer the online feature to our auction process. You will have the option to contribute and bid for donated items online prior to the live silent auction event.

Funds raised through the MML Foundation's auctions help support the League's mission to enhance and develop leadership in local government. For more information on donating an item, call Deborah Walton-Medley at 734-662-3246.
