About the Community Excellence Award

As the major force in the inspiration of today’s communities, the League’s recognition efforts are directly linked to our mission of “passionately and aggressively pushing change for better communities.”

By increasing the visibility of entrepreneurial and innovative solutions through the Community Excellence Award, the League strives to help educate and inspire members to remain focused on their passion for the areas they represent.

Regional Seminar Highlight

The League recognizes innovative solutions through the peer-nominated Community Excellence Award, a spirited competition we affectionately call “The Race for the Cup.”

Competitors for the 2009 Award were given five minutes to present at their respective Regional Seminar. Following the presentations, candidates were reviewed and scored by the regional seminar attendees, and the winner (for that region) was announced.

The seven regional finalists then represented their community in the final round at the League’s Annual Convention, where votes from every Convention attendee were counted, and the winner was announced at the Convention’s final event.

Does Your Community Have What it Takes?

Communities entered into the Race for the Cup based on the following questions:
1. Does your community have an innovative local success story, program, or project?*
2. Did this project have a positive impact on your community?
3. Could another community adapt this project to meet a similar challenge?

Competing in the Race for the Cup…

Community representatives attended their local Regional Education Seminar and made a five minute presentation to fellow attendees.
