General Summary: Work responsibility includes the purification of raw water by means of a large, modern, treatment and filtration plant, and the pumping of finished water to the distribution system. Work involves rendering technical supervision and consultation to subordinates in accordance with departmental policies and procedures on all operational and maintenance problems pertaining to water production. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works, who reviews work for technical compliance to policy and established standards. Supervises the operation, maintenance, and repair of water production, treatment and storage equipment and facilities. Coordinates all pump, purification, treatment, laboratory, maintenance, and storage activities; inspects operations of pumping and treatment plants for conformance with standard operational procedures and standards. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. The employee must be able to squat, stoop, or kneel. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of material. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Eligibility Requirements: Must have two (2) years of college in the science field and at least five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory role, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a State of Michigan F-I Water Treatment Certification license and have supervisory experience in a filtration and softening plant setting. In addition to the above requirements, all City positions require: the ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language as necessary for their position; the ability to follow written and oral instructions and the ability to get along with other employees and members of the public. City employees are also expected to possess and maintain a record of orderly law-abiding citizenship, sobriety, integrity and loyalty as it pertains to and reflects upon their employment with the City; and must be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of their position without excessive absences.
