Description

The Michigan Municipal League (the League) is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to support our Finance team by proving oversight and leadership on day-to-day accounting functions. The selected candidate will perform a variety of accounting work for multiple entities, will provide direction to other department staff, and will work closely with the Finance Director to achieve departmental goals. We’re looking for a self-starter who can quickly learn new skills and deliver prompt and outstanding work. Our ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is willing to take on new challenges, and can effectively and accurately juggle multiple tasks within deadlines.

If you were working for us, here are just some things you would do:

  • Oversee and participate in the day-to-day accounting activities of the League and its affiliate organizations. 

  • Prepare journal entries, perform various reconciliations, and create financial statements and narratives.

  • Lead the annual budget development process

  • Oversee audit activities and other year-end reporting.

  • Provide direction to other department staff, including accounts payable, receivable, event registration, and other accounting work.

  • Serve as a back-up to other departmental functions as needed.

  • Please note, there is no cost accounting work performed in this role.

About You: Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field is required.

  • Five or more years of experience performing higher-level accounting duties is required.

  • Previous experience supervising others is preferred.

  • Previous experience working in a non-profit is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with Great Plains a plus.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures related to fund accounting and non-profit accounting.

  • Intermediate to advanced skill with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Superior organizational skills and close attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Ability to effectively lead and direct the work of others.
