Federal Senate Transportation Bill Floor Debate to Begin - Call Levin and Stabenow to Support Amendments!
This week, the House and Senate will return from their "in-district" work weeks. The League and other transportation advocates such as the National League of Cities and Transportation for America are seeking amendments to improve Senate Bill 1813 and ensure that we are in the best position possible as the process moves forward. Michigan Municipal League Leads Off Testimony on Revenue Sharing/EVIP- Last week, League staff testified on behalf of communities throughout Michigan regarding the 2012-13 budget recommendations for the Economic Vitality and Incentive Program (EVIP, formerly statutory revenue sharing). The Department of Treasury also testified and outlined the EVIP program, both previous conditions and new conditions this year. They talked about the same three buckets of dollars to qualify for, which are the same as last year, but also outlined some new conditions that they are asking for this year. MORE>

House Transportation Bill Remains a Work in Progress - As the Senate seems ready to move forward with floor debate on its version of transportation authorization legislation, House leaders have stated their intent to revise what came out of committee. I-69 and Grand Traverse Region Communities Form Trade Corridors - Thirty-three communities along the I-69 corridor in Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, and Shiawassee counties and several in the Grand Traverse area have signed inter-local agreements to form trade corridors and become hubs for commerce and freight and logistics in their regions. Both initiatives have received a Next Michigan Development Corporation/Aerotropolis designation from the Michigan Strategic Fund. MORE>
