Governor Rick Snyder to Speak at League Convention in in Grand Rapids 
The Michigan Municipal League is pleased to announce that Governor Rick Snyder will attend our Annual Convention taking place in October in Grand Rapids. This is great news for the 400 to 500 municipal officials expected to attend our Convention Oct. 5-7 during ArtPrize in Grand Rapids because it gives them a chance to personally hear from the governor about the many changes taking place in Lansing under his leadership. EVIP Grants Available for Cooperative Efforts – The Department of Treasury is making available $5 million in grant funding to cities, villages, townships, and counties that elect to combine government operations. The grants, part of the new Economic Vitality Incentive Program, are meant to offset the costs associated with mergers, inter-local agreements, and cooperative efforts for approved projects that occur on or after October 1, 2011. Grants can also be used to offset up to 25% of a shared service analysis.MORE>

Michigan Receives Funding for Transportation Projects –The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $9.1 million in grants to Michigan for transportation projects throughout the state. Project awards include rail, highway, bicycle and pedestrian trails as well as a Complete Streets project. The funds are part of $417 million awarded throughout the country. MORE>
