Senate Finance Committee to Take Testimony on SB 34 to Eliminate Personal Property Tax!

The League NEEDS YOUR HELP! This Wednesday the Senate Finance Committee will take testimony on SB 34, which eliminates personal property tax. The committee is taking up SB 34 in conjunction with SB 1, which eliminates the Michigan Business Tax. Please contact your legislators and let them know the devastating impact eliminating the personal property tax would have on your community should it get enacted. MORE>

League on MGTV and WKAR Public Television – Be sure to watch MGTV this week to view our news conference featuring Michigan Municipal League Executive Director & CEO Dan Gilmartin, State Affairs Director Summer Minnick and Troy City Councilmember and Past League President Robin Beltramini. MGTV taped our media roundtable event that took place Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011 and is airing the 45-minute session at noon Tuesday, Feb. 1, according to the official MGTV schedule. Federal Update

President Talks Jobs, Investment and Deficit – Stressing job creation and economic growth through investments as well as deficit reduction, President Obama's recent State of the Union address emphasized the need for members of Congress to work together to solve our country's problems and included himself in that group. Noting that "the future is ours to win," but we can't stand still to get there, the President called for investments in expanded infrastructure, clean energy, new education initiatives, increased trade, and immigration reform.
