At the insistence of the League and several legislators whose communities rely on those fees, the legislation was amended to ensure that the first $8.5 million generated from the remaining fees go toward fire protection grants. Also to be accomplished is passage of a small business package, H.R. 5297 that, among other things, would provide a $30 billion fund designed to help community banks make loans to small businesses.
