Former House of Representatives Floor Leader Steve Tobocman to Speak at League Convention
Multiculturalism as an economic driver and social force will be the topic for Steve Tobocman’s presentation during the League’s 112th annual Convention, Sept. 21-24 in Dearborn. Tobocman is currently spearheading the Global Detroit study for the New Economy Initiative and Detroit Regional Chamber, looking at how southeastern Michigan can utilize foreign-born talent and global connections to expand the economy. Revoked PA 198 Abatements Can Now Be Transferred – SB 500, sponsored by Sen. Tony Stamas (R-Midland), has been signed by the Governor and is now PA 122 of 2010. This new law amends PA 198 (plant rehabilitation and industrial facilities exemptions) to allow for revoked abatements to be transferred. MORE>

Mandatory Collective Bargaining Language Passes U.S. House – Just prior to their July 4th recess, the U.S. House passed a supplemental appropriation bill, H.R. 4899, containing language that would mandate collective bargaining of municipalities, counties and states when dealing with public safety employees, under one-size-fits-all rules to be developed later. It is urgent that you call Senators Levin and Stabenow and tell them to vote against a supplemental bill unless the mandatory collective bargaining language is removed and given fair hearing on its own merits.
