League Town Gown Bill Passes House On Bi-Partisan Vote
Last week, the House of Representatives passed HB 6243, a key piece of legislation being advocated by the League as part of our Prosperity Agenda. The bill reflects the education asset of the Prosperity Agenda and the Center for 21st Century Communities (21c3) project by providing a mechanism to help foster “Town-Gown” economic development partnerships. House Labor Committee Passes More Faux Reform – Last week, the House Labor Committee reported SBs 1085 and 1086, bills that amend the Urban Cooperation Act and the Intergovernmental Transfers of Functions and Responsibilities Act. Federal Update
Mandatory Collective Bargaining Language Passes U.S. House – Just prior to their July 4th recess, the U.S. House passed a supplemental appropriation bill, H.R. 4899, containing language that would mandate collective bargaining of municipalities, counties and states when dealing with public safety employees, under one-size-fits-all rules to be developed later. It is urgent that you call Senators Levin and Stabenow and tell them to vote against a supplemental bill unless the mandatory collective bargaining language is removed and given fair hearing on its own merits. The League, which created 21c3 and identified the “eight assets,” is particularly pleased to see a community in Michigan so whole-heartedly embracing its effort to help communities “place-make.” MORE>
