Contact Your Legislators - PA 312 and Urban Cooperation Act Hearing on Wednesday!

The House Labor Committee this Wednesday, June 16 at noon will be taking up the Senate's version of PA 312 reform, SB 1072, as well as the Senate's Urban Cooperation Act (UCA) bills. As they are now, these bills would expand PA 312 without any substantive reforms to the current law. Contact your legislators and tell them to vote NO on expanding PA 312. Tell your legislators that if they want to help our local units of government they need to pass real reform bills, not these watered-down versions. Contact your legislators today! MORE>

State Affairs Update

League Pushes Town-Gown and State New Economy Legislation – The House New Economy Committee took testimony on two bills worked on closely by the League. HB 6243 is legislation to create town-gown districts. HB 6242 is legislation to create a state New Economy Council. This bill is modeled after a Massachusetts law, and is intended to refocus the state and discussions towards new economy issues that the League is pushing through its Prosperity Agenda. MORE>

TIGER II Transportation Grant Funding Announced – The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced funding availability in the amount of $600 million for the National Infrastructure Investment Grant or TIGER II program. Pre-applications are due July 16, 2010 and final applications on August 23, 2010. MORE>
