Today the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) issued an order directing 15 electric utilities in Michigan to file applications seeking rate approval for use of light-emitting diode (LED) lights by municipalities.  Many local units of government are installing unmetered LED street lighting, area lighting and traffic signals, and there has been no rate specifically for use of LED lights. A number of communities have expressed concern because LED lighting is more energy and cost efficient, and local units want to see this savings.  It's important for our communities to think in terms of energy and cost efficiency, and we thank the MPSC for issuing this important order that will allow local units of government to see savings when they switch to LED lighting!
