As the foreclosure crisis continues, local officials are constantly having to grapple with vacant properties. And while local leaders, non-profit organizations and community and neighborhood groups do what they can to prevent foreclosure, there remains the issue of what to do with vacant buildings.
This recent National League of Cities article describes several strategies being used to manage vacant and abandoned properties.
The League's own publication, "Restoring Michigan Communities Building by Building" also offers strategies for dealing with dangerous and unsafe buildings.
As theforeclosure crisis continues the League will be working with local officials and partnering with groups such as the Michigan Foreclosure Task Force to bring whatever resources are necessary to communities.
