In conjunction with the reform agenda announced by the Senate on Tuesday, bills to amend the Urban Cooperation Act were introduced yesterday by Senators Jansen and Hardiman.  Although we appreciate the Senate introducing UCA reforms, these bills are really the same bills that passed the House last session in a watered down fashion. They do not change the most egergious provision in both acts which say an employee who is transferred may not be harmed with respect to wages or benefits. This change is critical for real reform to the Urban Cooperation Act.  Contact your legislators to let them know it's critical that this law be substantively reformed. This language isn't the reform will not remove barriers to allow Michigan's communities to cooperate.
