As Congress finishes its work for the year, a continuing resoultion  is making its way through to continue funding for key programs for another year, contains a one-year extension of the current federal transportation authorization.

You may recall that the current authorization actually expired over a year ago, on September 30, 2009 and as the House, Senate and administration wrangled and fought over the terms of a new long-term funding bill, a series of extensions were adopted.

Now with the end of the year and results of the election upon us, the clock has run out again.  This year long extension probably means we won't see much in the way of a comprehensive transportation overhaul for some time.
