About once a month, I get the "Michigan Transporation Fund and Local Road Program Statement of Comparative Receipts and Distributions". I know, very exciting news.
As I was looking at the December '08 statement, a couple of things stood out:
- Total Motor Fuel Taxes collected in December '08 was $71.31 million. This is down 11.1% from December '07.
- Total Motor Fuel Taxes collected for the period 1/1/08 - 12/31/08 was $948.1 million. This is down 4.8% from the previous year.
- Total amount of Michigan Transporation Funds (MTF) distributed to cities in 2008 was $332.2 million. This is down 3.6% from the previous year.
Tonight is the Governor's 7th State of the State address. Perhaps she will say something that will be positive, or at least something that will keep our streets from remaining like the picture below.
