Yesterday, at the House Transportation Committee hearing on Michigan's transportation funding crisis, MDOT Director Kirk Steudle pointed out that funds could double. According to these projections (found here TF2 MTF Forecast Plan City Village 5-11-09.pdf (41.95 kb)), cities from Alpena (who will go from recieving $761,000 to $1.4 million) to Battle Creek (going from $4.3 million to $8.1 million) to the Village of Clarkston (going from $51,000 to $94,000) to Escanaba ($875,000 to $1.6 million) to Grand Rapids ($12 million to $23 million) to Detroit ($57 million to $105 million).
This comes at a very important time, as this money will go a long way towards address our transportation infrastructure problems. Beginning in FY 2011, the state will not be able to meet its federal match requirements - thus losing billions of dollars in federal aid. This will be amplified at the local leve, where communities have less revenue sharing to support required matches for federal-aid projects.
Once again, the time to ACT is NOW! We need members to contact their Legislators and ask that they take up the TF2 Funding Legislation today. Visit our action center here.
