The M-1 light rail project in Detroit and bridge work related to the new river crossing between Port Huron and Sarnia have received funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The funds come as part of the allocation of $1.5 billion in Recovery Act monies for improvement to roads, bridges, rail, ports, transit and intermodal facilites through the TIGER grant program.  USDOT received over 1,400 applications from all 50 states worth more than $60 billion.
